Robert Browning (1812-1889) was one of the foremost British poets of the Victorian era, popular and respected to the point where there were "
Browning Societies" dedicated to studying his works while he was still alive. He's arguably overshadowed in modern times by the poetry of his wife, Elizabeth Barrett "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways" Browning, though maybe I'm just not that well-versed in 19th-century poetry. Um, so to speak.
